Donna Horn is an artist residing on Salt Spring Island. She was born on July 22, 1951 in Seattle, Washington and spent her formative years living on the West Coast of British Columbia. Donna began painting at an early age, enrolling in private lessons at sixteen and later majoring in Fine Arts at the University of British Columbia.
Donna Horn’s works express her consistent determination to re-interpret landscape with painted abstractions that express the essential elements of form, colour and composition. Horn’s 30 years of SGI Buddhist practice has brought her close connections with the Japanese tradition of art representing a “dialogue” with nature and its emphasis on the simplification of form and colour within a restrained poetic balance. Donna’s latest works explore the energy and power that lies within our natural surroundings. The dynamic west coast landscape, the winds, tides, trees and mountains, dominate the paintings, which capture fully the raw unbounded force of the Canadian West Coast.
Donna Horn is a mature, productive artist, whose paintings invite the viewer to experience the emotion, movement and visually stimulating colours that are the hallmark of her work.
