July 20-22, Studio temporarily closed for family event

I will be temporarily closed from Thursday July 20th until Saturday July 22 in order to celebrate a family event!  The studio will be reopened on Sunday July 23th from 11am to 4pm. After that, I will be open on my regular days, Thursdays to Sundays, 11am to 4 pm until October 2017.

New Location, 170 Fer de Lance Road

Once again, I'm back on the Salt Spring Studio Tour for 2017.  I am now at a new location, still on the north end of the Island but on the East side, at 170 Fer de Lance Road, between Fernwood Road and Westcott Road.  Go down to the very end of Fer de Lance where you will find lots of parking and easy access to the studio/gallery.  This year I'll be opening up my living room as the gallery space and leaving the studio work space in my garage.  Last fall I had ventilation installed in the garage so working with the encaustic medium will be very safe.  I look forward to seeing you at my gallery this year!

Studio Ready

I've completed almost all preparations to open the studio for the Salt Spring Studio Tour.  New cabinets for storage, more parking areas and new signage.  We had our first visitors yesterday with a very positive response to the gallery, art and studio layout.  The tour doesn't officially begin until May 1st, however in April I will be opening the studio most days that I am available.  I have an Open/Closed sign at the bottom of the driveway but you can always email or phone for opening hours.  I look forward to meeting you at my studio!

Encaustics on the Rock

The process of encaustic on wood panel has taken me outside of my comfort zone into a world of mark making, sculpture and spontaneity of approach. Layers of coloured wax can be scraped and manipulated to produce some amazing results. I'm still heavily inspired by my physical environment but now I'm delving into a more imaginative interpretation of layered earth and seascapes - like an archeological dig, unearthing treasurers unique and tenuous.
